The miracle of childbirth is one of life’s most precious gifts. However, not every person is ready to become a parent. It could be that it’s the wrong time or that they never wanted kids. But, whatever the reason, there’s never any excuse for abandoning an innocent child to die alone in the woods or anywhere else!
But that’s what happened recently in Georgia, and somehow the “miracle baby” managed to pull through.
One night, during the early morning hours of June 07, 2019, police in Cumming, Georgia was called to a wooded area to investigate a strange package. When the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office got to the scene, they found a heartbreaking discovery. A baby had been wrapped in a mat and then in a plastic bag before being left in the woods, presumably to die.
The baby was newly born, perhaps only a few minutes or hours old, and she was covered in placenta with the umbilical cord still attached.
Thankfully, as soon as officers opened the yellow plastic bag, the baby showed that she was still alive as she kicked and screamed. The authorities wrapped the little girl up in an officer’s shirt, and after checking her vital signs, they determined that she was mostly unharmed.
Today, the little girl has new, loving foster parents and has made a remarkable recovery. Police released footage of their rescue of the baby named India in hopes of getting into contact with her biological mother. The department also took the opportunity to remind parents that there is a safe haven law active in all 50 states.
This law makes it safer for the child, and a mother’s conscience to be clear knowing that her baby has a safe home, whether or not she can care for the child herself.

“This law allows a child’s mother to leave her baby, up to 30 days old, with an employee of any medical facility including any hospital, institutional infirmary, health center or birthing center in Georgia without prosecution.”
