As we move our way through life, we often come across situations that we would never expect to happen. We are all busy and it seems as if we get busier every day. We move from one project to another seamlessly and some of us even do our best to multitask, although it never quite works out like we hoped it would. This is especially true when we are in school and we come to realize what a tight schedule really means. We try to manage many things at one time when possible.
Sometimes you might feel as if you are getting everything off of your list during the day but at other times, you struggle just to get from one minute to another. That is why it is always a good idea to have somebody by your side and watching over you in case trouble happens. For one high school student at Pascack Hills High School, that person who was watching ended up saving her life. As an 18-year-old student, she was doing more than one thing at a time but something unexpected happened.
Sarah Bazzini was rushing down the hallway to get to class and eating French fries as she did so. She only had a few minutes to get to the next class and she had to finish her lunch.
A French fry got into her throat and she suddenly couldn’t breathe. She tried to remove it but couldn’t and even tried to wash it down but nothing was working. She was losing her breath and she knew that she was going to suffocate.
That is when she looked over and saw the school law enforcement officer in the area. When he looked at her he knew that something was wrong. She was stumbling and couldn’t breathe and was gagging.
Officer Roger Caron saw that the color was going out of her face and he knew that something serious was happening. Sarah pointed at her throat so that he knew she was choking.
Caron didn’t even stop to think about it. He turned her around, wrapped his arms around her chest and started pulling. The rush of air that left her lungs pushed the French fry out and she was able to breathe again.
Children were watching as the officer saved the young girl’s life. Sarah thanked him and let him know that he was now her hero. He didn’t think much of it but the two of them have become friends.
Sarah takes every opportunity she can to thank the man that saved her life. She even rethought what she was going to do in college and now she wants to be a police officer so she could save somebody’s life.
The officer ended up getting commendation for saving her life and people worldwide know what he did. The story was shared and people were calling him a hero but he said that anybody would’ve done the same thing.
