originally written back in 1977 by an Irish-Norwegian duo called the Secret Garden.
The duo performed mainly all-instrumental music, and the song’s melody was composed by Rolf Loveland. The melody drew inspiration from songs like Londonderry Air, which was also the tune used in the popular Irish song "Danny Boy.” Loveland first performed the song at his mother’s funeral. He noted: "there’s something about the song people are embracing – which becomes emotionally strong. […] I believe people think of it as a song they use for their own stuff.”
Also, the original studio mix used a violin.
