Denzel Washington was confirmed as

In March 1975, a 20-year-old Denzel Washington was completely lost. He had just been flunked out of Fordham University with a dismal 1.7 GPA. Uncertain of his future and lacking direction, he spent the afternoon sitting in his mother’s beauty salon in Mount Vernon, New York.

As he sat there, an elderly woman named Ruth Green—one of the oldest members of his father’s church—sat under the hair dryer, staring at him intently through the mirror.

• The Message: She asked for a scrap piece of paper and a pen. Handing it to Denzel, she looked him in the eye and said, "Young man, you are going to travel the world and speak to millions of people.”
• The Turning Point: At the time, Washington thought she was just being kind, given that he didn't even have a college major. However, that summer, he took a job as a creative arts director at a YMCA camp. After performing in a staff talent show, a colleague pulled him aside and told him he had a natural gift for acting.

• The Prophecy Fulfilled: Intrigued, he returned to Fordham with a renewed focus, changed his major to drama, and graduated in 1977. He went on to become one of the greatest actors in cinematic history, winning multiple Academy Awards and using his massive platform to advocate for education, mentorship, and faith.

Years later, Washington recalled the salon encounter and asked his pastor if he should have become a preacher instead. His minister smiled and asked, "Aren’t you talking to millions of people already? Haven't you traveled the world?” Washington realized his acting career was his ministry. To this day, he still keeps that original piece of paper with the word "Prophecy" written on it in his wallet.
