Desperate Mom Is Urging Parents Everywhere To Check Their Baby’s Toes
When we first find out that we are going to be parents, we start preparing for the big day. It seems that our entire world changes from that moment forward and all we want to do is to make sure our baby is as safe as they can possibly be.
When the baby finally arrives, we anticipate that everything is going to go smoothly but that isn’t always the case. In fact, one mother from Michigan is talking about a danger that her child faced and it was something that nobody expected. It wasn’t an illness, it was something that most people know nothing about but now, she is sharing it with the world.
Heather’s son, Jacob was only 2 weeks old and she put him down for a nap. He slept for a couple of hours and when he got up, she changed his diaper. As she was checking his diaper, she noticed something was going on with his toes. They had turned a dark shade of blue while he was asleep.
Tommy, Jacob’s father came into the room that day to help get the baby ready after a nap. They wanted to save some time because they were going out to a party that evening so they wanted to get everything done quickly.
"I handed him to his dad Tommy to put socks on him when Tommy realized his two toes were blue and tied together with a strand of hair!!! I immediately took off what I could and had to take him to the ER where we spent an hour and a team of 5 doctors trying to get the rest of MY HAIR off his two toes…”
Doctors said that if she had not removed the hair before coming to the hospital they may have had to amputate the toes.
Heather is now letting parents everywhere know that they should check their babies. What their son had was ‘hair tourniquet syndrome’ and it is fairly common.

This picture was taken 12 hours after they removed the hair. We can only imagine how much pain the little boy was in. His mom was crying when she thought about it.
It’s good to know what could go wrong so you are able to head off any problems. As they say, the best defense is a good offense, so being aware of this problem can really help. Newborns may end up with a hair around their toes and for them, it is like having a razor-sharp wire in the area.
I had no idea this was an issue but I’ll be watching for it from this point on.
