Hero Police Officer Throws Surprise Party For Bullied Little Boy When No Guests Showed Up For His Birthday

We sometimes come across special people in our lives who change the course of our destiny. The thing is that we never know when some total stranger will come along nor how or how much they will impact our lives. Often, these compassionate unsung heroes have the power to help us realize that some problems in life are not always as bad as they seem in the moment.

For a sweet, shy little nine-year-old boy named Thomas Daniel, the special person who changed his life was police officer Austin Lynema.

It’s a common misconception that police officers only care about giving speeding tickets and arresting people. But the truth is that most of them will go above and beyond the call of duty to help people in need. And that’s precisely what Lenema did when he noticed Thomas struggling to catch the bus one day.

When Lynema saw the disheartened look on the child’s face after he missed the bus, the caring officer approached the young man and asked if there was something he could do to help.

Thomas then explained how he was traveling to school by bus because his mother could not afford to drive him back and forth to school every day. That’s when Officer Lynema called Thomas’ mother and asked her permission to give her son a ride to school in his police car.

“I saw him running down the sidewalk trying to chase his bus, he was in tears. I tried to stop his school bus for him,” Lynema said.

“He informed me he never missed a day of school. I wanted to make sure I could help him as much as I could.”

On the way to school, the boy told the officer about how it was his birthday that day and how his mother was preparing a celebration for him at home. Unfortunately, instead of feeling excited about it, the boy seemed a bit sad. When Officer Lynema asked him why he was feeling so down, Thomas told him how his classmates would bully him almost every day and that there was probably no one coming to his birthday party.

This story absolutely broke the officer’s heart, and he assured Thomas that he would be there to celebrate with him. Later that evening, when Officer Lynema arrived at Thomas’ apartment, he soon realized that he was the boy’s only guest, and it was all so very disappointing. The child didn’t even have a cake.

That’s when the kindhearted officer made up his mind to do something special for Thomas, so he and his fellow colleagues from the Grand Rapids Police Department decided to throw Thomas another party the following day. This one was going to be a lot more fun, and it would also include and a big cake and lots of presents!.

So when Thomas got off the bus the next day, Officer Lynema and his crew were waiting to surprise him with a Krispy Kreme donut cake! When the boy saw them standing there and singing happy birthday to him, he felt like the luckiest child on the earth.

Thomas expressed how this was the best birthday party he’s ever had. Aside from all the cool presents, Thomas also made a friend for life and someone he knew he could always rely on, and that was the best gift any child could dream of.

“People at school are happy for me because Austin … he never lets kids down, he’s a hero. I’ll never forget this until the day I die.”

What an incredible story about compassion and the power we all have to transform the life of a stranger in need. Sometimes we just need to take a little time and care to make a lifelong impact on someone’s life.
