Major update in Madeleine McCann case after police find hard drive with ‘sick pictures’

Seventeen years after three-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, her disappearance remains one of the most widely publicized missing-person cases in history.

Last year, her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, shared an emotional update, expressing their enduring grief and determination to find answers.

*"It’s been 17 years since Madeleine was taken from us,"* they wrote. *"Even now, that number feels impossible to comprehend. While we’ve been able to rebuild some semblance of a normal life, the uncertainty is unbearable, and the ache of her absence never fades."*

They thanked supporters for their unwavering hope, adding: *"Your encouragement gives us strength to keep going. The love and determination to find Madeleine, even after all these years, means everything to us."*

### **Prime Suspect Seeks Early Release**

The case’s main suspect, convicted German sex offender **Christian Brückner**, 48, is currently serving a seven-year sentence for the 2005 rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz. He also faces trial for the alleged rape of an Irish woman in 2004.

A former cellmate, **Laurentiu Codin**, claimed Brückner once boasted about abducting a child in Portugal.

*"He said he broke into a hotel apartment looking for money but found a child instead,"* Codin recalled. *"He took the kid, fled as police arrived, and later asked if DNA evidence could link him to the crime."*

Brückner’s lawyer dismissed the claims as *"completely new and contradictory."*

### **Prosecutors Fear a Legal Setback**

Brückner is now seeking early release, a move that has alarmed investigators. A source close to the case told German media:

*"Normally, this bid would be dismissed, but after last year’s trial outcomes, authorities are nervous. Charging him in Madeleine’s case might be the only way to keep him behind bars."*

If released, prosecutors could file formal charges related to Madeleine’s disappearance to delay his freedom.

### **Disturbing Discoveries at Brückner’s Hideout**

A recent investigation uncovered chilling evidence at Brückner’s former German hideout, including:

- **Unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and masks**
- **Children’s toys and 75 swimsuits** (despite having no child)
- **Photos of young girls and writings detailing child abduction fantasies**
- **A photo of Brückner at Portugal’s Arade Dam, near where Madeleine vanished**

Authorities also uncovered conversations where Brückner allegedly discussed *"capturing something small and using it for days."*

### **The Fight for Justice Continues**

German prosecutor **Hans Christian Wolters** stated in 2020: *"We have strong evidence our suspect killed Madeleine, though we haven’t found her remains."*

As legal battles unfold, the McCann family and supporters cling to hope that justice will finally be served.
