We’ve all either heard or had stories about in-laws who overstep their boundaries into their children’s marriages. However, one mom was absolutely floored after his mother-in-law did something that definitely didn’t improve her trust issues.
The day began like any other day. The new mom and her husband paid a visit to his family to show their baby off a bit. While she was there, the mom realized that she had a prescription at the pharmacy ready for pick up. Since she was with family, the mother thought it wouldn’t be a big deal to leave the baby with her husband and his mom. She figured, "What’s the worst that could happen?”
Despite her inner-reassurances, a small part of her still felt nervous about leaving her newborn baby alone with her husband and mother-in-law, although, at the time, she didn’t understand why. At first, she thought she was just paranoid. And, of course, the mother-in-law was more than happy to watch after the baby. It turns out; she had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to have her granddaughter all to herself.
So, the second the mom closed the front door and started walking to her car, the mother-in-law did not waste any time. She immediately took her granddaughter to the bathroom.
Once in the bathroom, the mother-in-law grabbed her head shaver and methodically started shaving every last scrap of hair off of her granddaughters’ head! Once the mom picked up her prescription and returned to her mother-in-law’s house, she could not believe her eyes. Her beautiful baby’s feathery soft baby hair was all gone. Her daughter now had an egg-smooth noggin, not unlike Patrick Stewart. As you can well imagine, the mom went absolutely ballistic, screaming at both the mother-in-law and her husband, asking why she would do such a thing.
It turns out that the grandmother had tried many times in the past to convince her daughter-in-law to shave her daughter’s head. However, at the time, the daughter-in-law always thought she was just kidding! To make matters worse, when she asked her husband why he would stand by and allow her to do this, he sheepishly confessed that he told his mom it was okay, and even helped clean up the hair afterward. Eventually, things cooled down, and the mother made it clear to both her husband and mother-in-law that they are never to alter her child’s appearance without her permission again. However, something tells me that the husband might have gotten very acquainted with their couch for at least a day or two!
After posting her story online, there were many people who agreed with the mom’s reaction and praised the woman for finding her cool. On the other hand, some felt that she overreacted and that the mother-in-law had every right to do what she did. On which side of the divide do you fall on?
