Parents Rush Young Son To Hospital After He Ate Burger Fresh From The Grill With Metal BBQ Brush Bristle In It

Summertime brings an along a ton of fun outdoor activities. Not only do we enjoy cooling off at our favorite “watering hole,” but we also enjoy spending time with family and friends while cooking and eating delicious meals in the great outdoors. Most of us really look forward to summer for that very reason. I mean, who doesn’t love a good BBQ? Right? After all, there’s something about cooking food over flames that adds a little something special to it. Sadly, there are times when this practice can also add something unwanted. When we are out cooking on our Barbeque grill, we always want to make sure we get the most out of the experience. That is why it’s so essential to maintain the grill and keep in it nice and clean. Cleaning your grill significantly reduces the possibility of getting sick from nasty bacteria. However, cleaning a grill can also create another issue that can turn into a deadly problem. This is what happened when the Fiore family were cooking burgers on their outdoor grill. Their 6-year-old son Anthony was ready to chow down on his fresh, hot, and juicy burger. But when the boy took a big bite, the moment he swallowed, he knew something was very wrong. Anthony felt a sharp sensation that he described as having a needle stuck in his throat. The pain only continued to get worse, and before long, the child started to panic and cry. His parents grabbed their son and immediately rushed him to the emergency room. By the time they got there, Anthony was bleeding from his mouth. When doctors took a look inside his mouth, they saw something shocking. There was a wire bristle stuck in the child’s throat where he was bleeding. That’s when they realized just what had happened. Before cooking, they had used a barbeque wire bbq cleaning brush. One of the bristles must have broken off and got lodged in Anthony’s burger patty. This issue was so severe that it landed the young lad in the hospital with a severe throat injury. Twelve hours later, the needle was successfully removed from his throat by a surgeon. However, there were further complications. There was a very high risk of infection, and although Anthony did recover, this issue is not always as easy to bounce back from. Believe it or not, he was lucky to have the bristle get stuck in his throat. Sometimes, these bristles can end up in the stomach or intestine, making them much more difficult to remove. The problem of BBQ bristles ending up in food and being swallowed is surprisingly common. Between 2002 and 2014, there have been 1,700 cases where people in the United States had to visit the ER for this very issue!

Wire Brush Brush Steel Brush Scratch Metal

It is often said that the best defense is a good offense. So if you want to avoid this issue then don’t use the brush. You can also find high-quality BBQ brushes that don’t have wire bristles.  But if you’ve already used a wire brush, you’ll need to check to see if any of the bristles have fallen off. This can also happen with plastic or wooden bristles. If you or someone you know feel they may have swallowed one, go to the ER right away! If you want a safer alternative to brushes, try heating your grill and using a crumpled up piece of aluminum foil to clean it. A nylon sponge also does the trick. Please remember to be safe and be sure to share this story with your friends and family.
