Son Films His Rockstar Mom Tearing Up The Drums Like Nobody’s Business While Playing ‘Wipe Out’

If you ask most women, they’ll tell you that being underestimated is something they’ve had to deal with for most of their lives. Take the story of Bobbi Gibb; for example, she was the first woman to finish the Boston Marathon in 1966 unofficially. You see, at that time, women were believed to be too "fragile” to compete in marathons. Of course, even after she completed the race, the organizers of the race didn’t want to recognize her achievement. It wasn’t until 1972 that the Boston Athletic Association officially sanctioned women to compete with men in the marathon. This was 52 years after women had fought tooth and nail for their right to vote! And when it comes to music, especially rock music, women face many of the same challenges. Folks are not used to seeing women play certain instruments such as the electric guitar and drums. The drums are considered to be an especially masculine instrument as the violent pounding motions of certain types of music don’t seem well to fit female stereotypes. However, back in 2012, a son recorded his mom getting up on stage with a band to play "Wipe Out” by the Surfaris. Folks were not sure what they were in for as this average-looking middle-aged woman quietly settled behind the drum set. But as soon as the music playing, this mom started plowing like there was no tomorrow! She went from zero to 100 mph within seconds, pounding crisp, clean notes like a seasoned pro. Her epic drum solos had the crowd cheering. You can check out this mom’s killer set in the video below.
