When a couple decides they want to get pregnant, they may be able to do so without any difficulty. The sad reality for many couples, however, is that it is not possible to get pregnant and sometimes, they may try for years without having it happen. They may even have to try additional measures to get pregnant. Annie Johnson and her husband, Joby were having such a difficulty and they knew they needed some help. That is when Chrissy, her older sister got involved.
Chrissy was going to make them an offer that was very difficult for them to turn down. It was a surprise to them, to say the least, but it seems as if they had it coming. The next surprise, however, was about to be a shock to everyone and that included the rest of the family. It was going to impact all of them in a very profound way from that moment forward.
It seems as if Chrissy was able to carry children without a problem. She had gone through two pregnancies prior to this time and didn’t have any real issues. As she watched her younger sister struggling over trying to conceive a child, she knew that there had to be something she could do about it.
“It was heartbreaking. When they started having problems getting pregnant it was devastating to watch.”
It was then that she hatched an unconventional plan. She discussed the plan with Annie, that she would be a surrogate if they were willing to try.
The suggestion shocked them at first but they eventually decided they would try. Two embryos were implanted in Chrissy and, since she was on the same cycle as Annie, embryos were also implanted into her. It was a last opportunity to try to get pregnant.
Before long, both sisters started to show some of the symptoms that sometimes go along with pregnancy. Doctors found out that there was something unexpected when they did an ultrasound:
“They found one in me and then they moved over and saw another little sac with another flickering heartbeat, and we knew that we still had Chrissy left to go.”
It turns out that Chrissy was pregnant with twins as well. For five years, she had attempted to get pregnant but now the Johnsons were about to have four children. The most unusual part of the story, however, is when both girls went into labor on the same day.
They both had C-sections and Chrissy wanted to give birth first so her sister could watch the twins being born. They were named Charlie and Tommy. Within moments, she welcomes twins girls, Gracie and Haddie into the family.
Annie discussed how exciting it was:
“Trying to get at least one baby, we are just so excited to take all four of them home and they’re all healthy.”
