The Discovery
On January 30, 2025, a park maintenance worker noticed an out-of-place residential trash container in Lucien E. Blackwell Park, located in the 700 block of North 47th Street. Upon opening the bin, the worker discovered the victim's body inside. Law enforcement arrived shortly after 9:40 a.m., cordoned off the area near Parkway West High School, and transported the entire trash container directly to the medical examiner's office to preserve evidence. An autopsy confirmed that Leatherberry had died from a close-range gunshot wound to her left temple.
The Investigation and Arrest
