Willie Nelson’s Son Lukas Sings Passionate and Soulful Cover Of Dad’s ‘Always On My Mind’

We are all familiar with the country music legend Willie Nelson. He has a career that spans decades and 9 Grammy Awards as well as 52 nominations proving that he’s among the elite in the music business. However, many may not be as familiar with his son Lukas Nelson, who’s an upcoming country star in the making. The 31-year-old musician was born in 1988 on Christmas day, his mom, Annie D’Angelo married Willie Nelson in 1991. In 2016, actor and director Bradley Cooper saw Lukas performing at the Desert trip and later approached him about writing music for an upcoming movie he was directing. The movie is a remake of the 1937 classic film “A Star is Born,” and it’s set to star Cooper along with Lady Gaga. Before Cooper’s upcoming version, the movie was remade twice, once in 1954 starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 starring Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand. Back in 2013, a video was uploaded showing Lukas Nelson performing one of his dad’s classic songs called “You Are Always On My Mind,” A Grammy Award-winning song Willie released almost 40 years ago in 1982.  The session took place on Delbert McClinton’s Sandy Beaches Cruise #19. In the impromptu performance, Lukas reminds folks a lot of his father, as he displays similar vocal talent, and some say the two even sound a lot alike. The environment is very relaxed, with Lukas standing next to a piano being played by the legendary pianist, Red Young. Lukas’ singing style and tempo definitely remind us of his dad, and we are certainly excited to hear a lot more from this young man! You can watch Lukas’ brilliant performance in the video below.
