Woman dyes her dog's fur red and the reason is so sad

Many dog owners are concerned about the risk of their pets being stolen, especially those with rare or expensive breeds that are prime targets for dognappers. One woman’s unconventional approach to protecting her dog has sparked widespread debate online, with reactions ranging from admiration to skepticism.

Chloe, the owner of a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees named Dandy, decided to give her dog a striking makeover: she dyed his fur bright red using pet-safe dye. The result is a dog that stands out in a crowd, resembling the beloved character Clifford the Big Red Dog.

The decision to dye Dandy’s fur immediately divided opinions on TikTok. Some commenters expressed concern, with remarks like "poor dog,” questioning whether the dye was safe or necessary. Others, however, were charmed by Dandy’s unique appearance and praised his bold new look.

Chloe has repeatedly assured her followers that she uses only vegan, pet-safe dye, specifically Opawz products. In follow-up videos, she explained her reasoning behind the dramatic transformation. One key reason was to deter potential thieves, as Great Pyrenees dogs are a rare breed in her area.

She also noted that Dandy seems to enjoy the attention his red fur brings, as he’s a social dog who loves interacting with people and children. Additionally, Chloe said she wanted to educate others about safe pet dye practices and even shared tutorials on how to dye dogs responsibly.

Dandy’s TikTok account, which has garnered over 10 million likes and 318,000 followers, continues to stir debate. Critics argue that dyeing the dog’s fur is unlikely to prevent theft and suggest the move was more about gaining online attention. Supporters, on the other hand, emphasize that Dandy appears happy and well-cared for, and they point out that the dye is harmless as long as it’s pet-safe. They also argue that Chloe has the right to make decisions about her dog’s appearance.

Despite the account’s popularity, Dandy’s TikTok has been inactive since February. On Instagram, the most recent post from July shows Dandy’s fur has returned to its natural color as the dye faded. Chloe mentioned that he "needs a touch-up” and hinted that he would be red again soon, though it’s unclear what his current color is. Interestingly, many commenters urged her to leave Dandy in his natural state, expressing a preference for his "true colors.”

The story of Dandy and his red fur continues to captivate audiences, highlighting the ongoing conversation about pet safety, owner creativity, and the ethics of pet grooming.
